Not your average Mother’s Day in Las Vegas

Roses are red, violets are blue. We’re in Vegas for Mother’s Day, how about… you?

We love Mom. She’s our everything. Who else scared away those monsters under our bed or the ones lurking in our closet? Who else made our science projects super awesome and comforted us after our first break up? We deserve to give Mom our best, and there’s no better way to show her a fabulous time than a good ol’ trip to Vegas. (Note: This is totally open to Grams too. If she’s down to party, well then! So are we.)

Here are some of the coolest, quirkiest and downright oh-my-goodness-did-that-just-happen Vegas happenings for Mother’s Day 2016:

See Antonio Sàbato Jr. at “Chippendales.”

Ladies, we’re still fanning ourselves from his appearance in Janet Jackson’s “Love Will Never Do (Without You)” music video. Fast forward 20 some-odd years later and we had the pleasure of seeing him tear up the dance floor on “Dancing with the Stars.” Sabato first became known as a Calvin Klein model and for his role as John “Jagger” Cates on “General Hospital.” (He must have visited the fountain of youth somewhere in between that time too!) You and mom are in luck: The handsome Italiano guest hosts at Chippendales at the Rio from Thursday, May 5 through Sunday, June 5.

Past guest celebrities have included supermodel Tyson Beckford, “90210” star Ian Ziering (whom we all know as Steve Sanders) and “Blossom” heartthrob Joey Lawrence, popular for his “Whoa, hooters!” catch phrase. We’ll just say one thing: If they call you up on stage, you better shake what your mama gave ya.

Embrace your age with “Menopause – The Musical.”

Yep — we totally switched gears with this one! Listen, aging is inevitable and whether you like it or not, hot flashes are a reality. But what better way to celebrate those glorious moments than with a Vegas show that addresses this and then some? In the hilarious production, Menopause – The Musical, you’ll enjoy all of the jokes as well as popular hits from the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s. We’ve been told that guests have cried during this show from laughing so hard. Plus, it’ll be great to be in the audience with people who can fully, wholeheartedly relate to “the change.”

Sing hallelujah (and enjoy some Southern dishes while  you’re at it).

Can we get an amen? Head to House of Blues this Sunday for some good ol’ Southern specialties and morning feast favorites. In addition to live gospel music, moms will also get flowers along with special songs dedicated to them throughout the morning set. Joy!

Get acquainted with Vegas’ best-known High Roller.

Hey, you don’t have to be a high roller or know someone (who knows someone) to experience the best of Vegas. The High Roller we’re talking about is the world’s tallest observation wheel. Standing at a crazy 550 feet high, you and Mom will get the best views in Vegas. This Mother’s Day, moms ride free, get a free glass of champagne, along with a free 4 x 6 photo to commemorate the experience. After your ride, there’s plenty to see and do at the LINQ Promenade. You can grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants, or get a cupcake and some ice cream at Sprinkles.

Go skydiving together.

Once you crossed the High Roller off of your list, you can’t stop there. No, no, no. You have to keep going! Might we suggest a skydiving day for two? Before you scroll past this bit, we’ll try to ease your mind. Number one: It’s indoors. It simulates the typical plane jump without the height. You’ll “fly” over a padded wind tunnel with a fan that generates winds of 120 miles per hour. And number two: All ages can embark on this popular Vegas thrill ride. Earn your wings on Mother’s Day with a “Moms Fly Free” special at Vegas Indoor Skydiving this Sunday, May 8. Not only will Mom fly for free, she’ll also get a complimentary Mother’s Day cupcake, courtesy of Cupcakery. This offer is applicable with the purchase of one single flight.

The first significant snow of the year on Mt. Charleston creates colorful patterns amongst the trees on Wednesday, November 4, 2015.

Hit the road.

If skydiving’s not Mom’s idea of a good time, that’s OK. While we highly recommend it (from our own experience), we understand it’s not for everyone. Rent a car and have a peaceful day, all to yourselves. Valley of Fire is about 50 miles north from the Strip and it’s utterly gorgeous. We’re talking bright crimson-colored rocks and the most stellar sunsets. You’ll even see rocks in funny shapes, from a piano and an elephant to a beehive. If you’re looking to burn some calories, Mount Charleston is having a half and full marathon (presented by Revel) this Saturday, May 7. Located only 35 miles northwest of the Strip, you’ll be shocked there are cool mountain breezes and tons of trees so close to the city. So about that hike — you’ll run through the forests of Kyle Canyon, as well as smooth downhill slopes. Plus, you can’t beat the view. If Mom’s a nature lover and a runner, this marathon is for her.

Spoil her with a churro tower.

Real talk — just reading about that race got us tired. For some of us, we know our destiny is to run to the next restaurant, not the next mountain. Head to Tacos and Tequila at the Luxor and show Mom just how sweet she really is. Churros aren’t just for carnivals or foodie fests anymore. Here, you can relive those childhood memories (with a Vegas twist) and indulge in a churro tower. It comes with cinnamon ice cream, Nutella and a chocolate drizzle… for shizzle. Pair this sweet treat with bottomless frozen margaritas and now we’re talkin’ a real party.

That was our list of fun and unusual Mother’s Day in Vegas events. If you’re fine with the traditional, that’s cool too. What Mom wants, Mom gets. Here are a few of our favorite spa and dining options for the weekend.

Have a spa day.

Or a spa weekend if you’re really looking to splurge. This weekend, dress up in gold with mom. The Golden Nugget spa has two glow-inducing spa treatments that incorporate 24k gold. These treatments will give you and Mom a head start on a healthy summer glow. This is one of the spa’s more popular treatments and is also popular among celebrities.

From Friday, May 6 to Sunday, May 8, Sahra Spa and Violet Hour salon at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas offers a special Mother’s Day Spa Escape. Mom will spend four hours in the 1,400-square-foot Sahra Spa penthouse, complete with private spa accommodations and butler service. It comes with plush seating; two oversized hydrotherapy tubs; rain tower; eucalyptus-infused steam room; a vanity; and a dining lounge space overlooking the Strip. The spa package includes one bottle of Veuve Clicquot Champagne, a fresh fruit platter and her choice of a 50-minute massage or 50-minute facial, as well as a milk and honey manicure and pedicure. Mom will leave with a Sahra Spa robe and a Pure Fiji product gift set.

Have a brunch to remember.

Head to The Barrymore inside Royal Resort for a special Mother’s Day brunch. Start your meal with lobster mac & cheese, smoked salmon lox or roasted artichoke with salsa verde. For the main entrée, choose from The Barrymore eggs Benedict with avocado and sundried tomato; unlimited pancakes with strawberries, blueberries or chocolate chips; lobster omelette; and steak and eggs (your choice of filet mignon or NY Strip). You can’t leave without dessert — The Barrymore features a lemon cheesecake or a pistachio-vanilla bean swirl crème brûlée topped with raspberries. Talk about getting on Mom’s good side!

Hexx-Exterior

If you really want to get on Mom’s good side, spoil her with a Mother’s Day brunch and dessert tasting at Hexx Kitchen + Bar, located at Paris Las Vegas. Signature brunch selections include cinnamon apple pancakes, served with apple butter, oat crumble and brown sugar butter; a savory lox and chive waffle, served with cucumber, onion, egg and a house-made dill crème; and a carnitas hash, made with tender braised pork, roasted salsa, home fries, eggs and pico de gallo. Bottomless mimosas are available, or you can treat Mom to the Colossal Bloody Mary, made with organic basil-infused vodka, house-made Bloody Mary mix, jumbo shrimp, Alaskan king crab leg, bacon, beef stick, peppers and pickled vegetables. Plus, you can’t beat the view of the Bellagio fountains across the street.

Save room for free dessert tastings. Right next to the restaurant, you and Mom can enjoy an assortment of petit fours, made with HEXX’s signature chocolate and newly introduced milk chocolate. Each of HEXX’s bean-to-bar milk and dark chocolates present flavors from Madagascar, Tanzania, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela, the five countries from which the cacao beans are harvested.

You can continue with more chocolate fixes in Vegas to round out your Mother’s Day weekend. Whatever you choose to do, she will love you to pieces.
